Berthoud was founded in 1895 by Paul Berthoud, who decided to invest in a new product: the knapsack sprayer. It was a huge commercial success, and from then on the company focused on manufacturing sprayers. The third generation of the family, cousins Guy and Didier, set out to widen the market and created a dedicated division called Flori-loisirs. Over the following years the company kept introducing new designs, such as a horse-drawn sprayer able to treat two rows of vines at once. After the Second World War demand for sprayers rose sharply. In 1965 Berthoud developed the GAMA pump, and two years later its output of high-capacity sprayers had doubled while knapsack production had grown more than fourfold. In 1987 Berthoud joined the Exel Industries group, which specialises in precision spraying technology. In 1990 the company launched the MACK field sprayer, built to European standards.

Berthoud’s mission is to protect and care for crops in order to help tackle hunger as the world population grows and the area of arable land stagnates. In these conditions a Berthoud agricultural sprayer becomes an essential machine for any farm.
For more than 100 years Berthoud has invested in research so that it can offer its customers the most accurate and reliable sprayers.

Berthoud combines time-proven and cutting-edge technologies to build products that meet the highest international standards. Its product development also follows the principles of sustainable development, with care for the environmental safety of its machines and the quality of the food they help produce.

Since 1987, when the company became part of EXEL INDUSTRIES, its machinery sales have grown year after year. Today they exceed 55 million, 40% of which are exports.

BERTHOUD currently employs 250 people, not counting the staff of its branches in England and Switzerland (Société Fischer).

Challenger (Spra-Coupe)
